Depression Counseling

The symptoms of depression can be debilitating.

Depression's unrelenting sadness, hopelessness, and lethargy interfere with the simplest daily activities.

We can help.

Depression (like Anxiety) is not usually the primary problem but rather a symptom of underlying unresolved issues.

A major goal of depression counseling is to equip and encourage you to identify the underlying issues and help you deal with them on your own so you can flourish and thrive.

NSC Strategies for overcoming depression

  • Strategy 1 -  Behavioral Strategies  Since depression has a significant biological component, it is important to combat it with physical strategies. We help clients take small but significant steps toward a daily lifestyle that does not feed their depression.

  • Strategy 2 - Primary Problems  In the safety of our session, your counselor will help you identify the underlying factors contributing to your depression.  Once we know the underlying problems, we can develop practical strategies for addressing them.

  • Strategy 3 - Cognitive Strategies  Research has demonstrated that replacing negative thoughts with positive ones is a highly effective method of combatting the symptoms of depression. Using CBT, Narrative Therapy, and other tools, clients will begin to think, feel, and live very differently.

  • Strategy 4 - Spiritual Strategies  Inner hope and joy are gifts of God. For clients who want this, we can help them receive these gifts directly from Him through historical spiritual disciplines.

How do I know if I’m dealing with depression or just feeling stuck?
Feeling stuck usually passes with time or a change in circumstances. Depression tends to linger and affects your energy, motivation, and outlook. If it feels persistent and hard to shake, it may be more than just a rough patch.

Why do I feel unmotivated even when I want to change?
Depression affects your energy, mood, perspective and motivation. You may genuinely want to do things but feel like you can’t get yourself to move. Counseling helps you develop hope and strategies to overcome these negative symptoms.

Can depression affect my relationships?
Yes. It can lead to withdrawal, irritability, or difficulty connecting.  Depression can drain your energy making even the smallest interactions feel overwhelming. That can strain relationships, even when you care deeply about the people in your life.

Why do I feel numb or disconnected from everything?
Numbness can be your mind’s way of protecting you from feeling overwhelmed. Over time, though, it can leave you feeling distant from life. Counseling helps you gradually reconnect in a safe way.

Is it normal to feel tired all the time?
Chronic fatigue is a very common part of depression. Even simple tasks can feel draining. Addressing the underlying causes can help restore your energy over time.

What helps when nothing seems to work?
When you’re in that place, it often means you need a different approach not more effort. Counseling provides structure, support, and strategies for working through what you’re experiencing so you can live your life again.

How does counseling actually help with depression?
Counseling helps you understand what’s driving the roots of depression, break unhelpful patterns, and rebuild motivation and connection step by step. Your counselor will provide encouragement, accountability, and practical strategies for living an abundant life.
